ICS - History is getting written by Archean Group
Archean Group with its farsighted and focussed vision has rocked the global phosphate market by acquiring majority stake in the world’s 4th largest phosphoric acid producer, ICS located in Senegal in West Africa. The Indian Consortium comprising of Archean Group, IFFCO and Government of India have taken a majority stake of 85% in ICS.
Indian Farmers Fertiliser Coopertaive Limited (IFFCO) is the largest manufacturer
and distributor of chemical fertilizers in India and one of the dominant players
in global fertilizer industry. IFFCO was established at the initiative of Indian
farmers in 1967 as a Multi-state Cooperative Society. It has now around 40,000 Cooperative
societies spread across India as its shareholders.
A concentre 25 year buy-back contract has been formulated between ICS and IFFCO, where 85% of the production will be delivered to IFFCO while the remaining 15% will be catering to the neighbouring West African countries.
ICS contributes 2% of the national GDP for the Government of Senegal.
Industries Chimiques du Senegal (ICS) is a public limited company in Senegal with assets valued over $500 million, having 2 million TPA capacity phosphate mine and acid plant with a capacity to produce 660,000 MT of Phosphoric Acid (as P2O5) per year. It produces
rock phosphate from its own mines. ICS exports the major portion of the phosphoric
acid and produces fertilisers with the balance acid. In a normal business year,
sales of phosphoric acid to India represent about 85% of the total sales of ICS,
and the remaining 15% comes from sales of fertilizers and pesticide products in
Senegal and in the nearby African countries.
The majority ownership of ICS is by an Indian Consortium (85%) followed by the
Government of Senegal (15%).
